About Us

Michael
After we retired, we became fascinated by the birds we were seeing in our back yard and while hiking in Sedona Arizona. Along with our fascination came a desire to identify exactly what kind of birds we were seeing. We purchased The Sibley Field Guide to Birds of Western North America and with field guide in hand we began birding in northern Arizona. With the help of local birders (notably Kevin Harding and the late Dena Greenwood) we began to learn how to identify birds. As with most new birders we occasionally misidentified birds. We would get excited about a new find and share it with Dena or some other experienced local birder. All to often we would hear “It would be really unusual for that bird to be in this location, did you get a picture?” That led us to purchasing cameras and lenses that would enable us to capture photos of birds that we could later show to more experienced birders for assistance in identifying what we had seen. If you see a couple with binoculars around their necks, spotting scope over one shoulder, and cameras with telephoto lenses, it could be us.
